Working on the Children's Program
Cambodia, Jan. 2003

For the last fifteen years I have been a free-lance photojournalist and writer. Before that, I lived in London for twelve years, working as a researcher/producer for television. Documentary film-making took me around the world, and gave me a real taste for travel. From 1991 - 1998, I lived in Hong Kong, and my assignments took me from Burma to Bangladesh, Australia to Argentina. My work has been published in The Observer Sunday Magazine (UK), GEO (German and French editions), the Sunday Times (UK), the Independent on Sunday (UK), Marie Claire (UK), Good Weekend (Australia), Discovery, Audubon and many other publications around the world. During the Handover in Hong Kong, I also worked as photo editor for Time and Business Week.

And then, after twenty-one years abroad, I returned to America.

America is now, officially, a suburban nation, and Levittown - my hometown - is where the great migration from city to suburb began. Realizing that Levittown was fast approaching its landmark 50th anniversary, I spent the next few years documenting the most perfectly planned community in America. Because Levittown is, in many ways, a microcosm of much of America, this project also became a way for me to rediscover America.

At the same time, I've been producing a multicultural educational program called Kids Across the World: By using real photo-stories about real kids, students can better appreciate and understand cultural similarities - and differences.
